A BIG THANK YOU to all of our supporters who helped us make our new facility a reality!

Our new facility enables us to provide a state-of-the-art shelter environment for record numbers of our community’s homeless pets while they await adoption.

With your help, we hope to find homes for even more animals in 2024!

116

Years Serving our Community

The Humane Society of Yates County was founded in 1908 and remains dedicated to the initial mission of improving the quality of life for animals in our community.

578

Animals Taken in

In 2023, 578 animals with nowhere to go were given food, shelter, and medical attention by HSYC.

2024 Goal: 650 intakes/650 Adoptions!

Our Programs

Our core belief is that every dog and cat in our community needs a home where he or she is loved, nurtured, and respected. We provide a safe haven for pets without homes and help them find forever homes through our adoption process.

A primary concern is making the best match for our dogs to ensure their safety and happiness in their new homes. Dog adoptions require multiple visits before a dog goes home. During your visits we’ll help you and the dog assess whether you are a match for each other.

Not all animals in our community have happy homes. Some animals might be abandoned, others might not be able to make a move with their owners, and some are born in the wild. We are there for these animals, providing food, shelter and medical attention in the pursuit of a forever home

Not everyone in our community can afford to spay or neuter their pets. We are fierce advocates for low-income assistance to limit the number of homeless animals in our community.

Our stray cat Trap-Neuter-Return clinics help limit the number of stray animals in our community while enhancing their quality of life.

Want to make a difference?

There are always volunteer opportunities for all ages, physical conditions, and interests. We welcome everyone! Volunteers can do anything from socializing with the animals, helping train them, walking dogs, cleaning & sanitizing the pet areas, grooming, washing & folding laundry, helping with fundraising events, working the front desk, lawn & gardening, to just about anything you can imagine! If you have a volunteer idea, PLEASE share it! Stop by the shelter and experience a place of love, kindness, hope, and CHANGE!

Do you have an animal which needs to be spayed/neutered? Check out our community spay/neuter programs.

Front Desk Reception, Cat Socialization, Dog Walking, Housekeeping, and more. Get started by signing up for a volunteer orientation session!

We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and are completely dependent on our community for support and receive no government funding.
